Brain Freeze!

This was a puzzle that a friend of mine asked me, and I wasn't able to solve it. Poor me.

A fly is contained in a sealed drum and doubles itself every minute. By 3pm, the drum will be full of flies. When will the drum become half full of flies?

(I didn't know why she used the fly as an example.)
